Azure Admin Virtual Machine Types
Azure Administrators are professionals responsible for
managing and maintaining Microsoft Azure cloud environments. They play a
crucial role in configuring, monitoring, and optimizing various Azure services
to ensure the reliability, security, and performance of cloud infrastructure.
Azure administrators handle tasks such as creating and managing virtual
machines, implementing network configurations, overseeing storage solutions,
and ensuring compliance with organizational policies. As of my last
knowledge update in January 2022, Microsoft Azure offers various types of virtual machines (VMs) to
cater to different workloads and performance requirements. Keep in mind that
Azure services and offerings may have evolved since then, so it's advisable to
check the official Azure documentation for the most up-to-date information.
Here are some common types of virtual machines available on Azure
Azure Admin

General
Purpose VMs:
These are balanced VMs that offer a good combination of
CPU-to-memory ratio.
Examples include the D-series and E-series VMs.
Compute
Optimized VMs:
These VMs are designed for CPU-intensive workloads that
require high-performance processors.
Examples include the F-series VMs.
Memory
Optimized VMs:
These VMs are optimized for memory-intensive workloads, such
as databases and analytics.
Examples include the M-series VMs.
Storage
Optimized VMs:
Designed for workloads that require high, scalable disk I/O
performance.
Examples include the L-series VMs.
GPU VMs:
These VMs are equipped with Graphics Processing Units (GPUs)
and are suitable for graphics-intensive and parallel processing workloads, such
as machine learning.
Examples include the NC-series, ND-series, and NV-series VMs.
MS Azure

High-Performance
Compute VMs:
VMs optimized for high-performance computing (HPC) workloads,
often used in scientific and engineering simulations.
Examples include the H-series VMs.
Burstable
VMs:
These VMs are designed for workloads that vary in usage and
provide a baseline level of CPU performance with the ability to burst to a
higher level when required.
Examples include the B-series VMs.
Azure
Spot VMs:
Spot VMs allow you to take advantage of unused capacity at a
lower price but can be evicted if the capacity is needed elsewhere.
Low
Priority VMs:
Similar to Spot VMs, Low Priority VMs are offered at a lower
price, with the understanding that they can be preempted if resources are
needed elsewhere.
When choosing a VM type, consider factors such as CPU,
memory, storage, and network requirements, as well as any specialized hardware
needs for your specific workload. Additionally, be aware of the pricing models
associated with each VM type. Always refer to the official Azure documentation
or Azure Portal for the latest information and guidance on selecting the right
VM type for your use case.
